PTA Minutes

Attendees: Joan Kurr, Tara Hailey, Jennifer Gulezian, Jen Metcalf, Becky Edgington, Alicia LaDuke, Peggy Cain, Christine Cochran, Tami Bouvier, Sue Stanganelli,  Jackie Buck, Anna Parrill, Elaine Flynn, Sheila Farnsworth

 

Fundraising:

·        Total sales from both Candles and Meadow Farms, $7000, we profit $3500

·        Other upcoming events, Pie Guy to take place in November, Pizza Bingo, first Friday of November.

·        Christine C. still has $150 in Shaw's gift cards to purchase paper goods or food for other events like the Italian Night.

·        Fundraising committee to be formed, sign up sheet sent around for those interested and those names were, Joan Kurr, Jen Gulezian, Jen Metcalf, Becky Edgington, Peggy Cain, Alicia LaDuke, Christine Cochran, Tami Bouvie, and Tara Hailey

 

Playground Improvement:

·        Initially, the PTA was planning on having a playground committee in the spring to work on improving conditions. Putting in the portable has caused problems with the kick ball field and grass. The area needs to be reseeded. Facilities Management may help us out with fixing this area up so we are not sure if we need parent volunteers to do this yet.

·        Anna mentioned playground needs such as new rims and backboards, line maker for drawing  4 square lines which we already have, playground safe mulch ( cost a little over $2100 and it is purchased every 3 years usually by the PTA).

 

PTA Membership is going well: 140 Familes and 32 Teachers, We will have a table set up for grandparents day to promote increased membership

 

Enrichments: November 7 Slim goodbody $650

                        March              Bubble mania $775

·        We have $3000 in the budget for Enrichments

 

Budget looks good, please see handout for details. Please send in outstanding receipts.

 

Principal's report:

·        NECAPS completed for Oct testing, 4th grade to do science NECAP in spring

·        Children's Progress for Math and Reading will take place for younger grades

·        PTS3 Reading and Math testing will take place later for grades 3 and 5.

·        They will be getting 30 Net books for the Soule School.

·        November 10, Report cards, 11 and 12 day off, Nov 11 Teacher Conference Day.

·        Heritage United Way is hosting a Monarchs game that offers discounted tickets to raise money for the Salem Dental Program. Dates to be announced at a later time.

·        The Facilites Forum that took place 2 nights in early October. They spoke of  the possibility of closing Haigh school and changing how space in schools is to be utilized. A warrant article on the March ballot is expected. The meetings can be viewed on Salem 6 stations during this month if the meeting was missed.

 

Box Tops

·        We will be getting $750 check from Box Tops in December, we made $210 from the October Fundraiser

 

Other upcoming events,

·        Pie Guy to take place in November,

·        Pizza Bingo, first Friday of November.

·        Holiday Parade Nov 29th, we could not find a chair person for this committee so we will not have a float but  hope to be represented by marching in the parade dressed as Looney Tunes.

·        PTA convention 13, 14 Manchester Radisson.

·        Blue Ribbon Award Oct 26 at 8:30, Cherie Smeltzer and Anna Parrill will be in attendance.

·        Book Chat: Day After Night: Anita Diamant December 1st.
