Volunteer Report -  Noreen Fantasia

Reflections Program – Soule School had 4 students that placed in the State finals, 3 of which came in 1st place. Each of these winners will receive an invitation to the State PTA conference scheduled for this Fall.

 

Recess Volunteers – Cindy Napoli volunteered for Playground duty. Returned slip given to Marianne Harris and Joanne Casazza to contact Cindy.

 

Upcoming Events - All

Teacher Appreciation Week – Scheduled for the week of May 7th – 11th. Flyers will be sent home with students looking for volunteers. Marianne Harris and Joanne Casazza will chair this event as they did last year. Noreen will discuss/schedule luncheon with committee.

 

Ice Cream Social – Committee flyer to be sent home soon. Committee will decide on raffle ideas. There will be no charge for the ice cream social this year.


Calendar Raffle – Per Kristine, we need to profit 2K from the sales of the calendar raffle to be where we want to be with the budget. All donations have been received and we have decided to sell calendars in April for a May giveaway. Contact Wal-Mart for the funds matching program.

 

Earth Clean Day – Noreen to purchase water – small bottles at BJs. Rain date to be determined.

 

Principal Matters – Kellie Annicelli (in place of Anna Parrill)

The School Board Presentation will be March 20th at Salem High School beginning at 7 PM. The topic of the presentation is the Cultural Festival school event and will include speakers from Soule school staff, as well as the PTA and several students. The Parent Involvement group will be present that night.

 

Talent Show – March 15th at 7 PM at Salem High School.

 

Everyday Math Night – April 11th at 6:30 – 7:30 at the Barron School (Flyers will be sent home)

 

Movie Night – Scheduled for May 4th. We are still researching speakers for that evening. Anna is researching a speaker for a discussion on birth order and personality, Noreen is looking into a speaker on Body Image and Kristine was looking into Rick LaBelle. For this event, Anna wants to have multiple TVs to engage the children more. We will be asking the Jr. Honor Society to be onsite this night to watch the children. Noreen is also working on getting 2 Ipods donated as door prizes. We also discussed inviting incoming 1st grade parents. Kristine will email Anna/Kellie the responses from the Parent Questionnaire on the subject matter they would want at a Parent’s night. Committees to be created – Noreen Fantasia, Kristine Nippert, Marianne Harris and Christine Cochran have volunteered.

 

PTA Topic – fingerprinting/background checking. Kellie asked if volunteers are required to do follow up background checks each year. It was also mentioned that volunteers should be required to wear their IDs around their neck. Kristine to talk to Anna on these requirements.

 

Playground Status – Questions arose on the status of the painting of the states and the four squares. Kellie also requested shapes to be painted to make it easier for the lower grades when lining up. Kristine will look into having the Salem High School art department assist with this task. Also, Noreen will also look into having the Eagle Scouts assist with this task. (Pat Hargreaves)

Officer nominations – Mail flyer home announcing this will occur at the next PTA meeting.

 

PTA Website/Newsletter speaker - Christine Cochran                  

 

Website will be expiring at the end of the school year. I have contacted Bob Berthel at Salem High School to discuss importing the web site onto the district server. This is a work in progress.
